Imagine a physics classroom demo on space-time. A heavy object is placed at the center of a stretched-out bedsheet, and as marbles roll across the warped fabric, they follow circular paths around the weight in the middle. What if every part of ourselves was one of these middleweights that attract other bodies in the universe toward us?

Middleweight is a podcast about the interlacing connections that create communities and cultures. His experiences colored by his Japanese heritage and scientific background, Toshiki Nakashige looks inward by narrating the stories of those around him.

This season, District 44, centers on the 2024 political campaign of Alyssa Nilemo who is competing for a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives. A Japanese American and fourth-generation Coloradan, Alyssa seeks to become the only elected official of Asian descent in state government. In the weeks preceding the election, we learn about how family history, identity politics, and kindness shape her approach to leadership. Her story is a reflection of all of our civic duty.
